At first glance, the strategic supply of photoreceptors in the human body is huge: 7 million cones and 120 million rods provide good vision in any conditions and at any time of the day. However, under the influence of "occupational hazards" the number of photosensitive cells rapidly and steadily decreases, which causes visual impairment and even threatens blindness.
Unnaturally bright artificial light is harmful to the eyes, because under its influence free radicals are formed in the tissues of the eyes - aggressive molecules that destroy the sensitive cells of the retina. They damage the vascular wall of the capillaries that feed the eyes, disrupt the delivery of oxygen to the tissues of the eye, cause a violation of the circulation of intraocular fluid and clouding of the lens. These changes are the reason that the so-called age-related eye diseases (macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma) in the last decade, doctors identify in patients whose age is far from retirement.

Lutein is a natural filter that effectively protects the eyes from damage and prevents the development of degenerative changes in the retina and decreased vision.
Under the influence of light rays, intense visual stress, with various eye diseases, the reserves of lutein and zeaxanthin are reduced. Since these substances are not synthesized in the body, their content in the tissues of the eye completely depends on the intake of food.
The natural sources of lutein are mainly plant products, namely yellow-orange fruits and vegetables. To replenish the supply of carotenoids daily, only 5 mg of lutein and 1 mg of zeaxanthin are needed.
